Beth Boylan, English teacher and department chair in Red Bank Catholic High School, Red Bank has spent a portion of her summer at The School of the New York Times Summer Academy working as a writing instructor and collaborating with a New York City-based published author/journalist to teach a creative writing course to high school students. Students from all over the world undergo a rigorous application process and are selected by a committee of readers from the school. Boylan's group included students from China, South America, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Los Angeles and New York.

In addition to intense all-day writing sessions, the class took field trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, Chelsea Market and the New York Public Library and welcomed several guest speakers, including a novelist, food critic, and book reviewer for The New York Times.
